Who We Are
Frontier Financial is an Edmonton-based portfolio manager and investment consulting firm founded and headed by Gene Hochachka, former Chief Investment Officer of ATB Investment Management Inc. and manager of the Compass portfolio program of mutual funds, one of the most highly regarded retail portfolio programs in Canada during his tenure. Gene was born and raised in Edmonton. His education includes a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Distinction from the University of Alberta, a Master of Science in Finance degree from the University of British Columbia including a year of doctoral-level courses, and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He resides in Edmonton, and sits on the Location Committee of the Elves Special Needs Society.

What We Think
It's our view that investment success is due mainly to the consistent, ongoing application of several simple principles, a formula available to all investors - at least in theory.
In practice, though, the investment industry often builds barriers to its clients’ success, barriers which include excessive costs and the lack of a fiduciary standard* among most financial intermediaries.
Likely the single largest barrier to investor success is the veil of complexity the industry uses to obscure simple but important facts. In the website’s Topics section, we pull back this veil and use succinct and concise written pieces, backed by robust empirical research, to quickly get to the heart of each major investment question.
Frontier's investment solutions reflect these views: they are straightforward, include very attractive fees, and are offered only under a fiduciary standard. We believe it’s long overdue for such practices to become the rule rather than the exception.
*A fiduciary standard requires an intermediary to act in their client’s best interest.
